Legal
Terms of service
The terms that apply when you book on Area or offer your services as a provider. Last updated .
Draft, pending legal review
These terms are a working draft and will be finalised before Area launches. These terms apply when you use the Area website, the Area app or the Area Pro app. By using Area you agree to them, so please read them carefully.
What Area is
Area is a marketplace. We connect clients with independent service providers (“providers”). Providers are not Area employees: they set their own prices and are responsible for the work they do.
Who can use Area
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract under Nigerian law. You are responsible for keeping your account details accurate and secure.
Bookings and quotes
- A booking is an agreement between you and the provider, based on the quote you approve.
- If the scope of a job changes, the provider must send an updated quote for you to approve before doing extra work.
Payments
Clients pay through Area when they book. We hold the payment and release it to the provider after the client confirms the job is complete, or automatically after a set period if no issue is raised. All amounts are in Nigerian naira.
Cancellations
You can cancel free of charge until your provider is on the way. Later cancellations may carry a call-out fee, which is shown before you confirm.
Reviews
Only clients who booked and paid for a job through Area can review it. Reviews must be honest and must not contain abusive or misleading content.
Responsibilities of providers
- Provide accurate identity, skills and bank information.
- Carry out work safely, competently and as quoted.
- Treat clients and their homes with respect.
Things you must not do
- Arrange payment for an Area booking outside the platform.
- Misrepresent who you are or what you can do.
- Use Area for anything unlawful or harmful.
Liability
We work hard to vet providers and keep Area safe, but we do not carry out the work ourselves. To the extent the law allows, Area is not liable for loss caused by a provider's work, beyond the support described in these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will tell you about significant changes before they take effect.
